Townhall Meeting

On Monday, January 14, 2013, in collaboration with the Gold Coast Pediatric Society, we hosted a Townhall Meeting for pediatricians on developmental screening. Our goals were simple: promote the latest technology in screening and provide the most up-to-date information about local community resources/referrals.

We had an amazing turnout with participants from across Ventura county (and beyond!), including representatives from the Chapter 2, American Academy of Pediatrics. Taken from the point of view of practicing physicians, our main speakers, Dr. Sun Lee  (general pediatrician & associate medical director, Pediatric Diagnostic Center) and Dr. Stephen Kundell (general pediatrician, Thousand Oaks Pediatrics) presented on topics such as choosing the right tools, how to implement screening in a busy medical clinic/practice, and how to dialogue with parents. Please click on the links below for handouts from these two presentations.

In addition to our speakers, a panel of community partners presented on referrals to local agencies including Fran Arner-Costello, Director of Programs and Services, Ventura County SELPA, Anne Baltzer, MA, Early Start Manager, Tri-Counties Regional Center, Linda Bays, MPH, MCHES, Staff/Services Manager, Ventura County Public Health, and William Goldie, MD, Pediatric Neurologist, Ventura County Medical Center. Links to these agencies can be found in the useful links section in the right column.

A big thank you to our presenters and to our participants for making this such a successful meeting. We would like to say a special thank you to Los Robles Medical Center for the use of their meeting room and for catering this great event. For pictures of the event, check out our slideshow.
